A background check is an investigation process that verifies criminal records, references and financial records. Background checks are particularly performed on individuals who are going through pre-employment screening. Individuals seeking positions that require a higher level of security like financial institutions, airports, hospital and governmental agencies will undergo an extensive background check.
Security Clearance
The investigation process is often administered by governmental agencies for a fee. However, this process can also be performed through private agencies. Background checks include previous employment history, criminal records and credit verification. Background checks are also given to employees seeking a government position in order to obtain a clearance of security. Some background checks are processed with unlawful intentions such as discrimination of employment, privacy violations and theft of identity.
